Winter Storm Venus Brings Heavy Snow to the Rockies and High Plains (RECAP)

Winter Storm Venus dumped heavy, wet snow from the Rockies to the High Plains during Mother's Day weekend 2015.

Venus first brought snow to California's Sierra Nevada and the mountains of Southern California .Palomar Mountain in San Diego County saw 2 inches of snow on May 8. that the last time it snowed there in May was 1998.

A bit farther east, Flagstaff, Arizona, picked up 5.6 inches of snow May 8-9, 2015.

From May 9-11, 2015, it was the Rockies and High Plains turn to see snowfall from Venus.

Denver International Airport picked up 4 inches of snow May 9-10, 2015, while 9 inches was reported in nearby Aurora, Colorado.

In Rapid City, South Dakota, 13.6 inches was measured at the National Weather Service Office. Venus was the heaviest snowstorm so late in the season and the second heaviest May snowstorm overall, there. In the Black Hills to the west of Rapid City, 19 inches was reported in the town of Lead.

The top snow total from Venus in the High Plains was 24 inches in Fort Robinson, Nebraska.
