One celebration that's become quite popular is Galentine's Day and though it's typically celebrated on February, 13 — one day before Valentine's Day — it's a good time to showcase the amazing women and close friends in your life.
Galentine's Day parties became popular from a 2010 episode of “Parks and Recreation,” where Amy Poehler's character, Leslie Knope, showed her co-workers how they can celebrate themselves in February.
“Every February 13th, my lady friends and I leave our husbands and our boyfriends at home, and we just come and kick it, breakfast-style. Ladies celebrating ladies,” she said.
Since then, Galentine’s Day has taken off with people buying thoughtful gifts for their female friends and family on the holiday. Since Galentine's Day is on Thursday, this gives you plenty of time to celebrate Valentine's Day on the weekend.
The last time it fell on a Friday was in 2020, and you'll be pleased to know that next year, in 2026, the holiday will fall on a Saturday.
During the middle ages, it was commonly believed that February 14 was the beginning of the mating season for birds, so it only seemed right that the day should be one of romance.
Now, Valentine's Day has become one of the most popular holidays around with people celebrating it all across the world. It's become a tradition to give flowers and candy to your special someone on the holiday.
According to the British Florist Association, it's estimated that 250 million stems of flowers are sold globally on Valentine's Day.
