Sizzling new video shows the sun’s most powerful eruption of the year so far — and it was aimed directly at Earth.

NASA’s Solar Dynamics Observatory, which constantly monitors the sun, captured video and images of the. In the video you can see the bright burst of radiation unleashed from the sun.

The flare originated from the region of the sun known as AR12297. According to SPACE.com, 12297 has “” in recent days, but Wednesday’s was by far the strongest yet.
The activity did cause some on Earth Wednesday, according to the Space Weather Prediction Center in Colorado.
