New York City's High Line: Sneak Peak at 'The Spur'

New York City's High Line is an old elevated rail line that has been converted into a public park and walkway on Manhattan's West Side. Here, visitors can enjoy views of the city, as well as relax at built-in grasslands, woodlands and lawns.

The High Line currently runs from . Eventually, the park will stretch to 34th Street with a new section called the High Line at the Rail Yards.

Earlier this month, the Friends of the High Line and the City of New York unveiled the design concept for the new section. The designs include a big, bowl-like structure surrounded by vegetation, which designers are calling the Spur. The name traces back decades, when the 10th Avenue Spur served as the rail link between the Morgan Processing and Distribution Center and the post office building.

"The new design for the Spur will offer the public an immersive ," the Friends of the High Line explain. "Visitors will enter a circular structure lined with dense woodland plantings that create an intimate setting."

The Friends of the High Line and the City of New York hope to open the High Line at the Rail Yards late next year. They say the Spur will likely open a year or two later.
