Disney has teamed up with Duke Energy Corporation to build a 5-megawatt solar facility spanning 20 acres and equipped with 48,000 solar panels.

Disney’s new 20-acre solar farm may be unusual for a typical power plant, but it’s Mickey Mouse shape is perfect for the “happiest place on Earth.”
In an effort to make its resorts more environmentally sustainable, the theme park giant has teamed up with Duke Energy Corporation to and equipped with 48,000 solar panels, according to a Duke Energy press release.
“Our new solar facility agreement is another example of how we’re always looking at innovative ways to conserve our natural resources,” said Reedy Creek Improvement District administrator Bill Warren. “The use of solar energy builds on our commitment to protect the environment and is another step toward realizing our long-term sustainability goals.”

The Reedy Creek Improvement District, the immediate governing jurisdiction for the resort, , according to nearmap.com, which published aerial imagery of the sit. Under this agreement, the corporation will lease the land from The Walt Disney Corporation and Disney will purchase the solar power from Duke.
Duke Energy Florida owns coal-fired and natural gas generation that to about 1.7 million customers within a 13,000-square-mile service area, according to its website.
This new facility is the largest solar-power project at Disney World.
