Oregon's Crater Lake recently received nearly 2 feet of snow, but it still wasn't close to erasing the massive snow deficit that grew throughout the winter.

In fact, the national park has seen just a third of its normal snowfall total to this point in the season, a problem that has been observed up and down the parched West Coast.

The Klamath Falls Herald and News reports the park as of March 24. But the total recorded Tuesday was 40 inches.

The snow that fell beginning Friday was heavy and wet. Rangers said cross country skiing was tough.
