Springtime is synonymous with flowers and the spring festival in this Japanese city doesn’t take their gardening lightly.

Hundreds of thousands of tulips in three hundred varieties create a colorful carpet of flowers at the annual Tanto Tulip Festival in the city of Toyooka in Hyogo Prefecture in Japan.

In the spring, many tourists flock to the area to see the tulips, which are in full bloom. The festival is known for its flower art, where the flowers are grown into various designs. In 2005, different color tulips were planted to create a mural of the beloved Japanese character "Hello Kitty."

Above is a collection of some of the flowers that decorate the festival grounds.

For more information on the Tanto Tulip Festival and other leisure spring activities in Japan, visit Toyooka's tourism website.
