A woman gave birth to a healthy baby girl along Lake Shore Drive in Chicago Tuesday morning. She did not make it to the hospital in time because snowfall from Winter Storm Stella brought traffic to a halt.
Winter Storm Stella's snowfall lingered into Tuesday morning in the Chicago area, and that was a big problem for one mother-to-be.
A woman went into labor at about 7 a.m. CDT Tuesday morning , WGN-TV reported, but because the snowstorm had brought traffic to a halt, it quickly became clear that she and her husband were not going to reach their destination. They called for emergency help, and paramedics and a crew from the Chicago Fire Department responded to assist, the report added.
"A couple on their way toMt. Sinai Hospital, as she was in labor and close to delivering, but with the snow and the bad traffic, ," said CFD spokesman Larry Langford told CBS Chicago. "And she was feeling that it was getting close so they decided to pull over and call 9-1-1."

Crews reached the mid-size vehicle and worked , according to DNAinfo. CFD emergency medical technician Anthony Prowell, who delivered the little girl with fellow technicianKim Bailey, said it was the first time he has ever assisted a woman in labor inside a vehicle – much less during a snowstorm.
The baby, named Renetta, weighed a little over 7 pounds, the report added. Prowell said he and Bailey received the call to deliver Renetta because their replacements at the fire department were also running late because of the storm.
"The mom and the baby are doing great," Prowell told DNAinfo. "They were very thankful. It was good. The baby's still good."
