Winter Storm Taylor closed lengthy stretches of two interstates Saturday in South Dakota.A stretch of I-80 in Wyoming was closed due to poor visibility and crashes.Officials in several northern Plains states urged drivers to avoid travel unless absolutely necessary.
Winter Storm Taylor moved into the upper Midwest and the Northeast early Sunday bringing high winds and snow that knocked out power, closed roads and canceled flights.
More than had no electricity in Michigan as of 1:30 p.m. Sunday, according to poweroutages.us. More than 9,000 homes and businesses were without power in New York.

Two businesses in the Fargo, North Dakota, areabecause of heavy snow, KFGO radio reported. Part of Trail King Industries' roof collapsed in West Fargo. Later in the morning, the roof of Matt's Automotive Center, just across the state line in Moorhead, Minnesota, also collapse.
By late morning, all stretches of Interstate 29 and Interstate 94 were open in North and South Dakota.
In South Dakota, officials reopened a stretch of I-90 between Wall and Mitchell.

A stretch of Interstate 80 in Wyoming that was closed in both directions Saturday also reopened later Saturday.
The roadway was closed between Laramie, Wyoming, and Cheyenne as snow on the ground was blown about by high winds, severely reducing visibility that caused crashes, according to the Wyoming Department of Transportation.
"Winter Storm Taylor has been intensifying in the Plains Saturday morning which has resulted in an increase of winds, including parts of southern Wyoming," said weather.com meteorologist Linda Lam.
"Winds have gusted up to 40 mph in the Rawlins area and the Cheyenne Airport measured wind gusts up to 44 mph Saturday morning."
has already fallen in parts of southwestern North Dakota and another 8 inches in northwestern South Dakota.
Many roads were snow covered across the states, prompting the North Dakota Highway Patrol to issue a no travel advisory for parts of the state.
The Minnesota State Patrol also ahead of the storm, but at least one semitrailer on Interstate 90 near Jackson, Minnesota, according to Minnesota Public Radio.
