Winter Storm Harper is spreading a mess of snow, ice and rain across parts of the Northeast on Sunday after dumping heavy snowfall throughout parts of the Midwest earlier this weekend.

The central Appalachians to upstate New York and northern New England are experiencing snow on Sunday, while rain is falling from southern New England's coast south to New York City.

Harper's heaviest snowfall east of the Rockies was .

Buffalo, New York, reported 11.1 inches of snowfall Sunday morning, and 9 inches were reported in Albany, New York. by early Sunday morning, which then changed to rain.

The storm is responsible for at least four deaths, including a Kansas Department of Transportation worker .

Snowy conditions . No one was reported injured.

Winter storm warnings and winter weather advisories have been posted by the National Weather Service from the central Appalachians into New England, including Buffalo, New York, Burlington, Vermont, Worcester, Massachusetts, and Portland, Maine.

More than 1,900 flights were canceled on Saturday due to the wintry weather.

The storm caused a Southwest Airlines flight to . The airport was closed after the incident, according to CBSNews.com, and no injuries were reported.

Thursday and Friday, Harper slammed parts of the west and the Plains, bringing heavy snow to California's Sierra Nevada. Lone Pine, California, on Thursday morning. More than a foot of snow has been measured in southeastern South Dakota and southern Minnesota.
