Hurricane Jerry brushed the northern Leeward Islands in mid-September before petering out just before making it to Bermuda. Jerry was conceived as a tropical wave that rolled off the western coast of Africa around Sept. 9-10, then rolled across the tropical Atlantic while slowly gathering organization.
