A United Express jet that reportedly slid off a runway at Maine's Presque Isle International Airport on March 4 during Winter Storm Scott actually missed the runway entirely, investigators say.
The 50-seat Embraer 145 jet flying in from Newark, New Jersey, had 31 people on board when it approached the airport. Initial reports said the then veered off onto a snowy field, the Bangor Daily News reports.
In a preliminary report released Thursday by the National Transportation Safety Board, the aircraft “landed between runway 1 and taxiway A in light to moderate snow.”
Parts of Maine picked up more than 2 feet of snow from the winter storm. At the time of the incident, light snow was falling at the airport and winds were from the north at about 5 to 10 mph, said weather.com meteorologist Linda Lam.
Two passengers and a crew member suffered minor injuries in the incident, the report said.

The report did not indicate what caused the commuter plane to miss the runway and officials with NTSB say it could take up to a year to complete a full report with an analysis and a conclusion of what led to the incident, the Bangor Daily News reported.
