There have been more than 1,000 cancellations and 4,100 delays at airports across the U.S.Some roadways across the Northeast experienced flooding issues.

A storm packing heavy rain and high winds flooded roads and delayed flights and public transit in the Northeast on Friday.

"This is a bit of an odd bird of a storm just a few days before Christmas," said weather.com senior meteorologist Jon Erdman. "Instead of heavy snow, it's heavy rain and wind that are causing all the headaches."

Storm totals have been modest so far, Erdman said, but that hasn't stopped impacts from mounting during one of the busiest travel times of the year in the nation's most populous corridor.

There have already been more than at airports across the U.S., according to Flightaware. Most of those issues were reported in New York metro area airports.

Some roadways across the Northeast experienced flooding issues. Most notably, a stretch of the Bronx River Parkway , as floodwaters rose, the Journal News reports.

But flooding wasn't the only part of the storm system causing issues across the region.

"As can often be the case in the Northeast, wind gusts over 40 mph have been enough to trigger power outages, said Erdman. "Gusts over 50 mph are possible in coastal New England Friday."

Some have lost power so far, according to poweroutage.us.

Those power outages likely came from issues like the wind downed power lines in Paramus, New Jersey, that of Route 17 for hours. The roadway has since reopened.

A power outage Friday morning at Washington, D.C.'s Union Station throughout the Northeast corridor, even after power had been restored, WFAA reported.

Winds along the Rockaway route connecting lower Manhattan to Long Island.
