Homes, cars and a church were damaged by hail when thunderstorms moved across North Texas on Sunday night.
The largest hailstones pelted areas just north of Dallas on Sunday evening as a supercell thunderstorm moved through, weather.com meteorologist Chris Dolce said. Supercells have a reputation for producing large hail, and this one was no different. Hailstones the size of tennis balls were reported.
Hail covered the ground in Collins County, with Allen, McKinney and Frisco among the hardest hit areas.
Parts of Dallas, Denton and Tarrant counties saw , CBS 11 reported.

Tarrant County was hit with hail as big as , the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported.
Scott Sanford, pastor of the Cottonwood Creek Church in Allen, Texas, told NBC Dallas-Fort Worth to the church's roof and the second floor was flooded.
"It is surprising that a hail storm did this. It's almost as if a tornado came through and ripped the roof off that would let all this water in," Sanford said. "This was just hail that was damaging the roof to such a degree that water came through."
Ejae Dolor, who lives in McKinney, told CBS 11 that hail broke windows in her kitchen and her car.
“At first you hear a little hail ... then it just got worse. The hail was getting bigger and bigger…” Dolor said.
Social media was flooded with pictures and videos of smashed windshields and yards turned white.
In eastern Texas, the severe storms knocked out power for dozens of customers and , KLTV reported.
Large hail fell in parts of Oklahoma on Sunday night, too.
The Leflore County Sheriff's Office said hail nearly as big as baseballs caused slight damage in the Leflore County area, , KFSM-TV reported.
