At least three people have been killed and more than 170 were injured by a powerful tornado that struck eastern Havana Sunday night.
The Cuban Center for Meteorology's Miguel Angel Hernandez said the tornado struck the capital with winds between 144 and 199 mph, according to the Associated Press. A tornado of that strength is equivalent to an .
Local officials reported 125 homes were damaged, 90 of which collapsed completely. Over 200,000 residents lost water service, most of which were caused by the widespread blackout that left pumps without power.

The tornado left Havana's 10th of October borough looking "like a horror movie," local resident Julio Menendez told the AP.
“From one moment to the next, we heard a noise like an airplane falling out of the sky," Menendez said.
Armando Caymares of Cuba's Institute of Meteorology said residents could feel a change in pressure as the tornado hit, the international news agency Agence France-Presse reported.
About 100 miles away, radar in Key West, Florida, picked up the signature of a "potential strong tornado."
"It was like a tower,” said Leanys Calvo, who was working in the 10th of October neighborhood when the tornado spawned. Calvo added "it was here for 2-3 seconds, nothing more. They were the most frightening seconds of my life.”
