A steady snow fell on the Chicago area most of Sunday accompanied by high winds and poor visibility leading to the cancellation of nearly 1,000 flights at Chicago airports.
More than were canceled at O'Hare International as of 3:30 p.m. CT, according to flightaware.com. Another 144 were canceled at Midway. Flights were at O'Hare and 45 minutes at Midway, according to WMAQ.

Winds gusted up to 30 and 40 mph at O'Hare and visibility was less than a mile at times.
As of 4:30 p.m. CT Sunday, 4.8 inches of snow had fallen at Chicago's O'Hare airport, according to the National Weather Service, the snowiest late-April day since April 16, 1961, when 5.4 inches of snow fell.
