The biggest building in the world is open for business, and it's so large, it has its own artificial sun. The New Century Global Center in Chengdu, China includes offices, shopping malls, a Mediterranean village, a water park, an ice-skating rink, and hotels.

Located in the Sichuan province of southwestern China, the building is a whopping 1.76 million square meters, large enough to hold 20 Sydney Opera Houses, according the British newspaper The Independent. It took only three years to finish the mammoth center.

"This is an ocean city built by man," said Chinese guide Liu Xun in an interview with Agence France Presse. Liu added that even the thick blanket of smog coveringChengdu won't matter inside the rippling glass structure, since the artificial sun will shine 24 hours a day and provide light and heat.

The completion of the New Century Global Center was timed to coincide with the Fortune Global Forum, a conference for chairs, presidents and CEOs of the world's largest companies, reported CNN.

The center isn't the only construction project underway in Chengdu -- the city is also expanding its subway line and plans on constructing a new airport, said CNN.
