Winter Storms 2012-2013

The Winter Weather Summary is issued daily during the winter season to discuss the large scale weather pattern across the U.S. as well as the timing and location of specific winter impacts.

Outside of the winter season the product will be issued on an "as needed" basis.

In all, there were 26 named winter storms in 2012-2013 spanning over five months beginning with the post-Sandy Winter Storm Athena in early November and ending with Winter Storm Zeus on April 22-23.

Not every winter weather system of the season prompted us to tag it with a name. The Weather Channel has strict criteria in place to determine when we name a particular winter storm, taking into consideration meteorological parameters such as snowfall amount, ice amount, wind and temperature. We also considered when the storm's impact will occur. Will it strike during rush hour or a weekend?
