The Weather Channel named Winter Storm Ukko on March 17, 2013.
Ukko brought a swath of snow from the Northern Rockies across the Upper Midwest and eventually into the Northeast. Ukko's snow finally finished up in northern Maine on March 20, 2013.
Some of the worst conditions occurred in the Dakotas and western Minnesota, where blizzard conditions led to the closure of a 127-miles stretch of Interstate 94 from Moorhead to Alexandria, Minn., early Monday, March 18.
A secondary disturbance associated with Ukko brought a narrow stripe of snow to the Ohio Valley on March 17.
Freezing rain led to ice accumulations in parts of Ohio and Pennsylvania as warmer air moved in aloft over cold surface air.
