Just days after Winter Storm Lexi and left thousands without power in New England, another winter storm took aim at the same region.
Winter Storm Mars dumped nearly a foot of new snow on parts of New England, and the wintry weather continued in parts of Maine Tuesday morning. The storm has affected schools and travel, and in southern New England alone, , Rhode Island State Police Capt. Timothy Sanzi told WJAR-TV.

Top snowfall total: 11 inches, East Falmouth
Cape Cod and other parts of the coast were battered by flooding and strong winds Monday morning. Huge waves hammered Scituate, while some roads were rendered impassable by all the water that came ashore.
Blizzard conditions were officially met Monday afternoon in Nantucket, Martha's Vineyard, Hyannis, Falmouth,Plymouth and Chatham, according to the National Weather Service.
All across eastern Massachusetts, authorities warned people to stay off the roads if possible, as motorists would be at risk from not only slick roads and power lines due to the strong winds.
Children all across the state were expected to return to school Tuesday after some districts had a four-day weekend with snow days on Friday (from Winter Storm Lexi) and Monday.
Air travel was also hindered by the imminent storm. At Boston Logan International Airport, more than 150 flights , according to FlightAware. It was the highest number of cancelations at any American airport Monday morning. By Tuesday morning, the airport's flight schedule was mostly back on track, with only about a dozen cancelations.

Gov. Charlie Baker asked people to stay off the roads if they can, and Monday morning traffic was lighter than usual, according to the Associated Press.

Providence schools were closed Monday , CBS News reported. More than a dozen flights were canceled Monday morning at T.F. Green Airport in preparation for the storm, according to FlightAware.
As Mars arrived, a few hundred customers lost power , WPRI.com said.

Strong winds were reported in parts of the Constitution State Monday morning, blowing down power lines and knocking out electricity to hundreds.
As the snow fell, numerous car accidents were also reported in Connecticut due to the hazardous driving conditions. Interstate 95 , with reports of several injuries in a bus crash. Light to moderate snow was reported in the area at the time of the accident.
Near Exit 36 North in Milford, a jackknifed tractor-trailer , according to NBC Connecticut. After a closure of several hours, the roadway reopened, the report added.
A four-car accident involving another jackknifed tractor-trailer was , closing down the highway, according to the New Haven Register.
"The roads are in really bad shape in general so if they can avoid traveling at all that’d be great,” North Haven police spokesman Capt. Kevin Glennsaid. “But if they can avoid that area that would help.”
The Department of Transportation announced the highway would be shut down for several hours, stretching into the evening rush. Minor injuries were reported in one of the four cars.

Although New York City received modest snow totals from Mars, officials kept a close eye on roads to ensure there weren't any major travel problems in the area.
"New York City is expecting two to four inches of snow with light snow through Wednesday, and we're urging residents to prepare for snowfall and slippery roads this week," NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio said in a statement. "While traveling, make sure to drive slowly, use major streets or highways where possible, and exercise caution when walking, biking or driving. Check in on friends, neighbors and the elderly to make sure those around you are safe and prepared for the coming snow."

At La Guardia Airport, more than 125 flights were canceled Monday, according to FlightAware. Several schools were closed Monday morning as well.
Top snowfall total: 9.8 inches, near Eastport
Snow lingered Tuesday in parts of Maine as Mars moved out of New England. From Monday afternoon through Tuesday, the storm had major impacts on travel in the Pine Tree State. Several weather-related traffic accidents , according to the Portland Press Herald.
One of those incidents was a jackknifed tractor-trailer that closed Route 202 for hours in the town of Alfred, the report added. The driver was uninjured in the crash, the Portland Press Herald also said.
