Winter Storm Magnus Brings Snow to Midwest
Winter Storm Magnus Brings Snow to Midwest
Nov 21, 2024 8:31 PM

Winter Storm Magnus brought a swath of snow from parts of Kansas, southeast Nebraska, northern Missouri and Iowa to southeast Minnesota, Wisconsin and northern Michigan.

While a relatively modest amount for a late January storm in the nation's heartland, that falling snow did snarl rush hour traffic in cities such as Des Moines, Iowa on January 30, 2013. This snow was accompanied by winds gusting over 30 mph, reducing visibilities.

Here are the top snowfall totals by state from Magnus:

Watson, Iowa - 9"Nebraska City, Neb. - 6"Reedsburg, Wis. - 10"Concordia, Kan. - 5.2"Conception, Mo. - 4"Snyder Lake, Mich. - 14"Reno, Minn. - 5.5"Mound, Ill. - 6.5"

Incidentally, this was the heaviest snowfall in both Des Moines and Omaha since before Christmas (Dec. 19-20).
