Winter Storm Khan brought a swath of light snow from the Midwest to the Mid-Atlantic on January 25. In the South, freezing rain and sleet led to hundreds of accidents from southeastern Kentucky to eastern Tennessee, far northern Georgia, North Carolina and northern South Carolina.
Dangerous travel conditions will persist into Saturday morning for areas that have seen accumulations of ice, sleet and snow.
Below are a few of the notable reports for Khan, which was the eleventh named winter storm of the season:
Illinois - Khan brought Chicago its first official one inch snow of the season, the latest date that's ever occurred in the period of official weather records.Michigan - 1.4 inches of snow measured in Detroit.Wisconsin - 5.2 inches of snow in Medford.Indiana - Up to three inches of snow reported in Richmond.Ohio - Four inches of snow reported in several locations, including West Liberty.Kentucky - Locally as much as a half inch of ice accumulation near Hazard. Numerous reports of slick roads and hazardous travel in the southeast part of the state. More than 100 accidents reported in Pulaski County alone.Tennessee - Ice accumulations of one to two tenths of an inch in eastern parts of the state. More than 4,000 customers lost power briefly near Knoxville. Multiple accidents reported due to icy roads.Georgia - Light icing in the northern part of the state. Accidents due to icy roads reported near Hiawassee, Jasper and Cleveland.North Carolina - Sleet and freezing rain impacted much of the state including Asheville, Charlotte, Greensboro, Raleigh and Durham. Numerous accidents reported.South Carolina - Associated Press reports one fatality due to an accident on icy roads in Pickens County. At least 70 wrecks reported in Greenville County.Virginia - Up to three inches of snow reported in southeast parts of the state. 1.6 inches in Norfolk. 1.4 inches in Richmond.West Virginia - Six inches of snow measured in Weirton.Pennsylvania - Locally just over four inches of snow reported in western parts of the state. 1.5 inches recorded in Philadelphia.Maryland - Up to four inches of snow near Frostburg. Near an inch in Baltimore.D.C. - Less than an inch at Washington National.New York City - 1.5 inches in Central Park.New Jersey - One to two inches of snow in parts of the state.
