Winter Storm Gail is being blamed for the deaths of at least five people. The storm quickly dumped several inches, and in many places, feet of snow throughout the Northeast Wednesday evening into Thursday.

on Wednesday afternoon on Interstate 80 in Clinton County, Pennsylvania, State Police reported on Twitter. Initially, officials reported two people died in the crash, but they later clarified that the second death was caused by a medical issue not related to the crash. I-80 was closed during much of Thursday as tow trucks worked to removed vehicles.

A driver was killed in Canastota, New York when a tractor-trailer rolled over in the early hours of Thursday morning on the New York State Thruway. Another person died in Albany on Interstate 787 at about 2:30 a.m. .

A 63-year-old man identified as John Vichie was killed in Versailles, Pennsylvania, as it cleared the roads Wednesday afternoon, according to WPXI.com.

Gail shattered the all-time snowfall record in Binghamton, New York, with 41 inches. Litchfield, Pennsylvania, . Many areas reported more than 3 feet of snow.

South-central New York was walloped with . Ten inches of snow was measured in Central Park as of Thursday morning.

The storm will began to pull away from the Northeast Thursday, but areas New England, the Hudson Valley and other parts of the Northeast may continued to see snowfall and gusty winds early Thursday.
