Earlier this week, Winter Storm Dion brought winter weather to the Midwest and Plains, before dumping heavy snow on the Mid-Atlantic region. Over the weekend, it coated parts of Texas in ice before it struck with force on the East Coast, blanketing some spots in a foot of snow and grinding highways to a halt.

Delaware

The Delaware Memorial Bridge reopened to traffic after being shut down earlier in the day because of a jack-knifed semi.

Iowa

The state's first widespread snow of the year caused a 20-car pileup on Interstate 80 in Des Moines, but no serious injuries were reported and the road was cleared by noon Sunday.

Maryland

Baltimore officials cancelled the mayor's annual Christmas parade Sunday because of snow and dangerous road conditions.

Before the Vikings-Ravens game in Baltimore, small tractors with plows and workers with shovels tried to clear the snow, but snow continued to fall.

New Hampshire

A couple of fender-benders were reported in the Lebanon and Manchester areas.

Several flights scheduled to take off from Manchester-Boston Regional Airport were delayed.

New Jersey

Parts of Southern New Jersey experienced up to 11 inches of snow Sunday.

State police said two people died in a car crash on an icy Interstate 78 in Hunterdon County.

The state Transportation Department treated highways with salt and imposed speed restrictions on some roads.

New York

Police say slippery road conditions contributed to a pileup involving about two dozen vehicles in Yonkers. It happened shortly after 11 p.m. Sunday on the Bronx River Parkway. About 30 people suffered minor injuries.

Some schools in Westchester, Putnam and Orange counties had two-hour delayed openings due to the wintry weather on Monday. Some northern Westchester schools were closed.

Police also reported two minor three-car accidents on the parkway near White Plains early Monday.

A five-car pileup also was reported on the Saw Mill River Parkway.

Pennsylvania

The second round of snow was expected to begin around daybreak. Forecasters are expecting around three to five inches in southeastern Pennsylvania including Philadelphia, and one to three inches in and around Harrisburg. Farther west in the State College region, around one to two inches of snow are expected.

PennDOT's emergency operations center ramped up Monday evening. The department has 5,400 operators and 2,250 trucks available for snow removal plus a smaller fleet of contractors.

"This event looks like mostly snow, so it will be a bit more straightforward hopefully," said Erin Waters-Trasatt at PennDOT headquarters in Harrisburg. "Because when you have freezing rain moving in, it can be a challenge."

Daytime high temperatures are expected to remain more than 10 degrees below normal for this time of year, or below-freezing, so the white covering may be on the ground for the two weeks until Christmas.

"Right now the odds are probably favoring having some around" on the holiday, Lambert said. "As far as an actual fresh snow cover, it's still too far out."

The snow that fell Sunday was heaviest around Philadelphia, where some areas received 6 or 8 inches. State College reported only an inch or 2, with slightly more on the ground in Harrisburg and even more along the Maryland state line.

Virginia

About 12,590 outages have been reported by Virginia's electric cooperatives.More than 28,300 Dominion Virginia Power customers didn't have electricity as of 6 p.m. Monday. About 26,410 of the outages are in Northern Virginia.Appalachian Power reports about 1,110 outages.

Washington D.C.

Many side streets were icy after a light freezing rain fell early Monday morning.

The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority said many flights were delayed or canceled at Dulles International and Ronald Reagan Washington National airports.

Baltimore-Washington InternationalThurgoodMarshall airport also had canceled flights.

Washington D.C. schools were on a two-hour delay this morning.

West Virginia

Appalachian Power reports about 9,360 outages as of 6 p.m. Monday. The total includes about 5,655 outages in Mercer County and about 1,925 in Raleigh County.

The utility reports smaller outages in Fayette, Greenbrier and Summers counties.

In northern West Virginia, Mon Power reports about 110 outages.

Wisconsin

Thirty-eight crashes occurred in five hours Sunday on Milwaukee roads, according to local police. The number of traffic deaths has risen to three from Sunday's snowfall in southeastern Wisconsin.

Police say a 63-year-old Franklin man died from injuries suffered in a massive pileup on Highway 41/45.

Menomonee Falls police say another person involved in the crash suffered life-threatening injuries.

Sunday's crashes shut down the highway for about nine hours.

A woman was killed in a rollover crash on northbound Interstate 43 at Highway 100 in Milwaukee County, and a man was killed in a multiple-vehicle crash that closed eastbound/southbound I-94 in Racine County for about seven hours.
