Winter Storm Cleon Impacts Travel in Texas, Arkansas, Indiana and Elsewhere

DALLAS — Winter Storm Cleonmade road and air travel a nightmare from the Southern Plains into the Ohio Valley Friday.

American Airlines, based at Dallas-Fort Worth, canceled nearly 1,000 flights systemwide. Dallas Area Rapid Transit also canceled rail service because of ice on the tracks.

Only about a dozen flights were canceled out of Bill and Hillary Clinton National Airport in Little Rock, but airlines were waving change fees for passengers who needed to rebook.

Interstate travel was also tough across the region. Atleast two people died in crashes on snowy roads in Indiana. State police warned drivers to stay off of Interstate 70 near Richmond, where numerous crashes were reported along a 10-mile stretch.

The wintry weather even proved to be too much for an Indiana DOT plow truck, which flipped on its side on state road 45.

In Arkansas, Interstates 30, 40 and 540 were covered by a mix of wintry precipitation. Many schools and businesses across the state closed as police advised everyone to stay off the roads.
