More than 100,000 photographers from 166 countries submitted photos into the 2014 Sony World Photography Awards. The subjects range from a series of beautiful Israeli landscapes to a pride of lions stalking across the Serengeti.
Now, after several months of narrowing down the selection, the World Photography Organization has revealed American photographer Sara Naomi Lewkowicz as the winner of L’Iris d’Or/Sony World Photography Awards Professional Photographer of the Year.
“I’m completely stunned; there was such extraordinarily strong work, I figured there was no way I could win – I was just excited to receive one award! I’m completely overwhelmed,” Lewkowicz said in a statement about winning the $25,000 prize. Her photo series “Shane and Maggie” also won in the Contemporary Issues category.

The group also announced winners in 14 categories: Architecture, Arts & Culture, Campaign, Conceptual, Contemporary Issues, Current Affairs, Landscape, Lifestyle, Nature & Wildlife, People, Portraiture, Sport, Still Life and Travel.
The finalists’ photos are currently being exhibited at the Somerset House in London till May 18 and will be published in the Sony World Photography Awards book.
