Tropical Storm Watches Extended to North of Tampa Bay as Elsa Nears Florida
Jan 17, 2024 3:32 PM

Tropical storm watches have been expanded northward along Florida's western coast to include Tampa Bay ahead of Elsa's approach early this week.

A tropical storm watch is now in effect from Flamingo northward along Florida's west coast to Anclote River, including Tampa Bay. Areas from Craig Key eastward to Ocean Reef, including Florida Bay, are also under a tropical storm watch. This means tropical storm conditions (winds 39+ mph) are possible in the watch areas by Monday night or Tuesday.

Tropical storm warnings remain in effect for portions of the Florida Keys, where tropical storm conditions are expected to begin late Monday.

Elsa is currently bringing heavy rain to Jamaica and Cuba. The storm will track over Cuba and into the eastern Gulf of Mexico later Sunday into Monday.
