When shooting aerials, photographer Antoine Rose didn’t just settle for a seated position in an aircraft, he decided he needed a better view.
Rose stands strapped to the helicopter, while dangling outside the aircraft’s door to capture the perfect aerial shot.
“I like an office with a view,” the Belgian photographer told wetather.com. “To fly like a bird above the sea and the shoreline is…magic.”

While, he describes shooting aerials as an incredible experience he doesn’t recommend shooting them from outside of an aircraft to everyone.
“To be strapped outside is not for the faint of heart, but the shooting process has been developed gradually over a period of 12 years,” he said. After each flight he tries to improve his shooting process.
The hardest part, according to Rose is keeping track of all that he needs to do while he is on his shoots.
“What is difficult is to mix all the tasks in real time: guiding the pilot, having the right lens, being sure that the camera settings are setup properly, concentrating on the light, the subject, the framing and discussing with the tower control to get clearance.”
Rose also has to worry about the weather, which can “either ruin a shoot or contribute to wonderful photos.”
While he was doing a night flight in Miami earlier this year the helicopter was flying at a higher altitude than normal. The heavy wind gusts made Rose’s job a lot more difficult.
“Each shoot is a new journey that has to be carefully planned, albeit everything can change very quickly,” he said.
