Solar Eclipse Captivates Sky Gazers in Asia (Photos)

Sky gazers were enthralled on Wednesday as a total eclipse was visible to manyin Southeast Asia. Excited watchers cheered and others "knelt" in prayer for the spectacle, according to the Associated Press'sAndi Jatmiko.

The extraordinary phenomenon was a rare sight for Indonesia, which previously witnessed one back in 1988, as chronicled byNASA.Thousands of tourists flocked to the region to witness the amazing event, using solar-filtered telescopes, pinhole projectors and other viewing devices to take in the majesty of the moon passing in front of the sun.

Several lucky people, who had anticipated the occurance ahead of time, booked a plane to witness the eclipse vis-à-visa commercial flight from Anchorage, Alaska, to Honolulu, giving them a front row view to the spectacular occurance, ABC News reported.

North Americans will have the opportunity next year to witness another total eclipse, as one is expected to be visible to much of the United States on Aug. 21, 2017.
