More snow and chilly temperatures will continue to give the Rockies, Plains and parts of the nation's northern tier a wintry feel as the calendar flips to May on Wednesday.
A foot or more of snow has fallen in the higher terrain of Colorado and southern Wyoming since the week began. In the lower elevations, Cheyenne, Wyoming, picked up 7.3 inches of snow Monday into Tuesday. Snow totals of 3 to 5 inches have been reported as far east as central Nebraska.
More snow will impact the northern and central Rockies and the adjacent High Plains on Wednesday. There may also be enough cold air for snow or a rain-and-snow mix in parts of northern Minnesota, northern Wisconsin and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.
Areas from the Colorado Rockies into central and eastern Wyoming, northwest Nebraska, western South Dakota and southwest North Dakota could see some light additional accumulations on Wednesday.
Spring snow isn't entirely uncommon in the Rockies. Snowflakes can fly until June in some years, and the last inch of snow often falls in May as far south as New Mexico and Arizona.
