Neil Armstrong’s Apollo 11 Artifacts Found Tucked Away in Closet

Astronaut Neil Armstrong brought a bag full of memorabilia back from the historic Apollo 11 mission to the Moon, and for more than 45 years, it was never seen by the outside world.

But Armstrong’s widow, Carol, recently found in a closet,according to The Verge. She turned it over to a curator at the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum, the report added, who was thrilled to discover the treasures inside the bag.

“It is hard ,” said Allan Needell of the Smithsonian’s Space History Department, in a blog post.

Inside the bag were artifacts from the spaceship that carried the first astronauts to walk on the Moon, including a mirror and several other parts from the craft. There was also a camera used to record the activities inside the spaceship, as well as the crew’s moonwalksduring the 1969 mission.

“In the future, we hope to complete documenting and cataloging the entire collection of items and, as appropriate, to place them on public display,” Needell added in the blog post.

Armstrong died on Aug. 25, 2012, at the age of 82. to walk on the Moon.
