“The surface of Ceres has revealed many interesting and unique features,” said deputy principal investigator for the Dawn mission Carol Raymond. “… These and other features will allow us to understand the inner structure of Ceres that we cannot sense directly.”

The pyramid image, taken June 14 from about 2,700 miles away, was released Sunday. The image comes on the heels of the discovery of several bright spots on Ceres' surface.

Dawn found the bright anomalies in a 55-mile-wide crater, and scientists believe they are caused by possibly ice and salt.

In early August, the spacecraft will move into a new orbit just 900 miles above Ceres' surface.
