NASA's Mars Opportunity Rover was supposed to be hibernating for the winter, but a strange object that caught scientists' eyes couldn't be ignored.

A News.com.au article said space fans have speculated about the origins of the rock, saying it could be anything from a meteorite fragment to a of something bigger during a major impact.
It's possible that it's something less exciting; the report mentioned it might just be a piece of debris disturbed by the rover's tires.
The photo , the 3,540Martian solar day since Opportunity first landed on the Red Planet, according to the Houston Chronicle. NASA has not publicly stated its thoughts on what the object could be.
The rover had been stationary since November due to the harsh weather conditions, according to the RT.com report.
