They say a good photographer gets the shot, rain or shine. If that's true, then UK photographer Andrew Whyte's little camera-wielding Lego tourist is one of the best around.
As part of his Legography series, Whyte takes his iPhone and his mini figure all over his city of Portsmouth, located on the South coast of England, to photograph sights and scenes in different weather conditions—from a misty day to a sun-drenched afternoon. The results? Shots that capture his island city, home to Portsmouth Historic Dockyard and heaven for naval buffs, in a whole new (albeit, shorter) perspective.
In an interview with the Daily Mail, Whyte said he began taking photographs of the Lego man in August last year when he wanted a common theme to the photos he was taking. "I used to walk around all the time taking photographs of random things like sunsets, textures, locations, but they had no connection ... By following the Lego figure day to day, it makes the photographs easier to follow," he told the Daily Mail.
Whyte has since taken 150 photographs of his plastic companion (which he keeps in his pocket at all times) exploring spots in and around Portsmouth, and has amassed almost 500 fans on his Facebook page, where he posts updates on the project.
The abundance of photos may be attributed partly to the fact that Whyte, who actually specializes in long-exposure photography, shoots his Legography snaps with his mobile phone. But taking photos of the Lego man in not-so-ideal weather can be tricky, even with an iPhone.
On one snowy day, Whyte had to make some adjustments to get the perfect shot. "I had to chill the little guy down before making any snow pics, or the residual heat from where I keep him in my pocket [will] start to melt the snow around him,"he said.
Melting snow all around him? We think Whyte's Lego man is fast becoming one hot photographer.
