From a stream flowing down a mountain during a heavy storm to a wet and windy moment captured on the site of a copper mine, weather played a significant role in the winning images of the 2014 Take a View 'Landscape Photographer of the Year' Awards, which aim to showcase the richly diverse landscape of the UK.
Photographer Mark Littlejohn's shot of asmall, transient stream created by heavy rain in Scotland's vastGlencoe’s mountains won the top prize in this year's search, which received thousands of entries and featured a£10,000 (around $15,900) prize. Judges said Littlejohn's image, titled 'A Beginning and an End,' captured a "fleeting moment of beauty" of the Scottish Highlands.

The photographer, based in Cumbria in north west England, said he had set off for Glencoe at 1:30 a.m. but the rain had been torrential at dawn. As he wandered about waiting for gaps in the weather he saw the stream form high up on Gearr Aonach ridge.
“It tumbled steeply down the slopes before vanishing again near the base of the mountain," said Littlejohn. "With more squalls coming through I decided to take this image as the light became slightly more diffuse. It had to be a quick handheld shot due to the sideways rain.”

Founder of the Take a View Landscape Photographer of the Year Awards Charlie Waite said Littlejohn"discovered and isolated a fleeting moment of beauty within a vast and slightly threatening arena. The composition compels us tovisually explore the image and its delicacy and understatement are enormously satisfying."
Other images ranging from sunset over the North York Moors to a close-up of a lichen-covered rowan tree were among the winning shots in a series of categories.
