Earth is very unique. It’s the only planet in our solar system that supports life.

There are many theories, but the most likely scenario is pretty awful.

At about four and a half billion years old, our Sun is considered middle-aged, and as it burns out it’s getting bigger!

Eventually the Sun will grow not only in size, but also in brightness, reaching 1,000 times its present intensity. As the Sun expands, it will overtake Earth and put an end to our planet.

Before the Sun engulfs Earth, however, all life on our planet will have been cooked to a cinder by the Sun's fatally intense power.

It's a terrifying prospect, but not one we have to worry about in this lifetime.
