Here's What Super Bowl Foods Are Not Good For Your Dog

Super Bowl weekend has arrived and it’s one of the biggest social gatherings of the winter season. As you’re filling the buffet with chicken wings and tasty treats, your dog is probably waiting for the right moment to sneak away with a few bites.

Here are some tips to keep Fido safe as friends and family gather for the big game.

Chicken wings are a no-go. While you might think it’s OK to let your dog gnaw on a chicken bone, can easily shred and cause serious injuries to the digestive tract. While a small amount of chicken bone can dissolve after ingestion, it’s still very risky. The bone can cause choking, or shards can cause a blockage or tears in the intestinal lining. It can lead to major surgery or even death. Stick to rawhides made in the United States or raw bones bought directly from a butcher shop.

Watch out for cookies, brownies or candy with chocolate or raisins. It’s pretty common knowledge that dogs can’t eat too much . But did you know that are also poisonous to canines? Keep the treats that include these items away from your pup.

Anything too spicy, salty or fatty, like nachos, chili, guacamole or cheese, can cause stomach upset. contain a toxin called persin, which is dangerous for dogs in large amounts. Smaller dogs especially need to watch their salt intake, since they have less tolerance for foods.

If you have an alcoholic punch bowl set up, make sure your dog can’t reach it. Alcohol is more toxic to dogs than it is to humans. Even the small amounts of that can be hiding in syrups or certain foods are dangerous. Never let your dog take a sip of your drink.

So what can your dog eat? Veterinarians say it’s not terrible if they get a piece of a plain hamburger or some pizza. But the safest thing to do is stick to food made for dogs.
