First Interplanetary Launch from West Coast Lights Up Night Sky

NASA launched Saturday morning an Atlas V rocket carrying the Mars InSight lander from Vandenberg Air Force Base in California to look deep beneath the surface of Mars, studying the red planet’s interior by listening for marsquakes and measuring its heat output.
