Bosnian photographer Adnan Bubalo says “weather” and “atmospheric conditions” are two “crucial” elements to his photography, especially in his series of ethereal landscapes of Tuscany.

“Atmospheric conditions, changing the quality and intensity of available light, creates the scenery,” explained Bubalo in an interview with Weather.com.

Bubalo prefers shooting right before sunrise, stating that regardless of what time of year it is it still provides the best backdrop. But in his Tuscany series, he explains that achieving the right colors was a little bit of being in the right place at the right time.

“I think I was very lucky because the weather conditions in Tuscany were phenomenal,” he explained.

The former military war photographer said he went to Tuscany for his own exhibition in Rome called “Landscapes and People” in 2012. He got the itch to travel to Tuscany after seeing the beautiful desktop wallpapers for his computer.

“My wish to [travel to] Tuscany was mainly provoked by the wallpapers that I got after installing the new versions of Windows,” said Bubalo. “Having the opportunity to enjoy such beautiful sights on a daily basis I just could not help wanting [to finally go] there.”

While he loves shooting outdoors, he had a scare when he was shooting at the top of Vranice mountains in Central Bosnia during the winter. After a great shoot on the mountain on his way back to his car he hit a dense fog that never seemed to end.

“I walked for 8 hours in complete darkness, at a temperature of 20 degrees below zero Celsius [-4 Fahrenheit] and with a sense of fear that I can never forget,” Bubalo said. “What saved me was a thorough knowledge of the area, which has a lot of streams. I knew that by following one of them in the direction of East I would arrive to the foot of the village where I left my car.”

But, despite his experience landscape photography still peaks his interest, combining his two passions – nature and photography.

“I often witness the magnificent sceneries that are not always possible to capture and display in the photography. The feeling of lightness that I experience especially when staying in the high hills, but also in all other places, is something that makes me truly happy.”
