An Aspen-area avalanche killed one person Monday morning.The avalanche was triggered by a group of backcountry campers.A Special Avalanche Advisory was issued from 6 a.m. Saturday morning to 8 p.m. Monday night.
An avalanche outside of Aspen, Colorado, killed one person Monday morning, according to local officials.
According to a preliminary report by the Colorado Avalanche Information Center (CAIC), a group of backcountry campers staying at the Markley Hut — about 15 miles south of Aspen — .
The CAIC reported that the group was able to located the individual buried, but were unsuccessful in reviving the man.

The Pitkin County Sheriff's Office and said they were working with Mountain Rescue Aspen to retrieve the individual killed by the barrage of snow.
The CAIC issued a Special Avalanche Advisory for Aspen-area mountains that lasted from 6 a.m. Saturday morning until 8 p.m. Monday.
"," the CAIC listed in their advisory. "Backcountry travelers can easily trigger very large and deadly avalanches. Avalanches may break across terrain features and run long distances."
10 people have been caught in avalanches In the last 10 days, 44 of which have been caused by backcountry campers. More than 280 avalanches have been recorded by the CAIC since January 11th.
