Aliso Canyon Methane Leak Captured in Stunning Video

To fully understand the damage that's being done by a methane leak near Porter Ranch, California, all you have to do is watch the video above.

The clip, shot by the Environmental Defense Fund, shows the greenhouse gas, invisible to the human eye, spewing into the air. According to the EDF, methane has in our atmosphere than carbon dioxide, which makes it a danger for our climate.

The EDF has been keeping real-time data updating the public on just how much methane has leaked from beneath Aliso Canyon, and the numbers are staggering.

The methane leak began on Oct. 23, 2015 and has displaced thousands of Porter Ranch residents. Residents have experienced headaches, nausea and nosebleeds, among other side effects that have all been blamed on the methane leak.

Residents who have fled the greenhouse gas have encountered other problems along the way. According to KPCC, at temporary housing, as landlords have attempted to make extra money off the high demand for places to stay while Porter Ranch residents are evacuated.

The disaster has also gotten the attention of environmental activist Erin Brockovich, , according to the L.A. Daily News.
