This is Sterk, the star attraction at the , and he has an unusual skill for a lion.

The images featured in our video above were taken last week on January 21, when the pond in Sterk’s enclosure froze over, with temperatures dropping well below freezing.

A spokesperson for the zoo told Caters News Agency that the 18-month-old lion apparently loves the ice - especially the sound of it cracking under his weight. The spokesperson said the 400-pound lion is also extremely friendly and "appreciates the company of his human friends, who come to play with him every day.”

When it’s not freezing outside, Sterk also enjoys playing soccer and Frisbee in the summer, reports the zoo. But once he got the hang of the ice, it was just a matter of time before the hockey stick got introduced, this being Canada and all.
