French photographer Sarah Martinet decided she wanted to capture Iceland in a new and unique way, so she took to the sky.
“I decided to photograph Iceland from the air; I wanted to show a different point of view of this country,” explained Martinet. “Shooting images from a plane reveals to us the world from a different angle. It gives graphic images and shows us how nature can be wild and beautiful at the same time.”

Martinet flew over Landmannalaugar, Langisor, and Lakagigar in a small plane with the windows open, which provided her with some difficult shooting conditions.
“Taking pictures out of a plane window was much harder than I thought,” she said. “I never imagined the wind would blow so hard on the edge of the window and out of the plane. Between the wind, the cold, the speed of the plane and shaking, it was not easy.”
When it comes to shooting conditions she also prefers a little challenge. “Typically, for my landscape photos, I will never take pictures when the sky is blue and the sun is high in the sky. I always prefer cloudy atmospheres and flattering lights of sunset.”
Martinet got her start doing portrait photography. Eventually, she moved into architectural photography and then she found her passion for shooting landscapes, especially long exposure landscapes.
