Much of Grand Isle in Jefferson Parish was underwater.

"We have had a lot of bayside flooding, more than expected,” Grand Isle Police Chief Laine Landry told nola.com.

Inundated roads prevented authorities from reaching low-lying homes that were reportedly flooded.

The hurricane levee experienced erosion on the Gulf of Mexico side, Landry said.

Debris and water also made Louisiana Highway 1 impassable between Grand Isle and Golden Meadow.

Storm surged flooded many parts of St. Bernard Parish, too.

A levee in Delacroix breached Sunday. Video on the parish's Facebook page showed water 10 inches deep flowing over a 200-foot section of levee.

The St. Bernard Parish Sheriff's Office closed Florissant Highway and Delacroix Highway at the LA46 junction because of the rising water.
