Hundreds of motorists were stranded on Interstate 65 for hours overnight Friday into Saturday after involving an 18-wheeler, reported WAFF.
"It was a total nightmare," traveler Amber Howe told NBC News during a phone interview. Howe and her husband, who were traveling from Central Illinois to Panama City Beach, Fla., were stuck on I-65, just north of the Tennessee River at mile marker 334 near Athens, Ala.,from 9:30 p.m. Friday until 6:00 a.m. Saturday.
Icy roads led to multiple accidents in Walker County on Friday, according to the National Weather Service in Birmingham.
Accidents were also reported in Jefferson County, where frozen precipitation was causing problems on Old Springville Road and Interstate 459, NWS Birmingham said.
Snow and sleet created slick conditions in Marshall County, causing multiple accidents in Union Grove, as well, the National Weather Service in Huntsville reported.

Icy roads were causing travel problems Friday morning in some parts of the state. At least three bus accidents were reported Friday morning, but , according to THV11.com.
Two snow plows overturned in Searcy during road treatment Friday morning, THV-11 confirmed with the Arkansas Highway Patrol.

Interstate 70 from Georgetown to Silverthorne is and heavy snow closed the interstate for nearly two hours Friday afternoon, according to 9News. The Colorado Department of Transportation closed the interstate at 2 p.m. It reopened around 4 p.m.
Road crews with the CDOT are preparing for more snowfall this weekend. CDOT has more than with 106 plows ready to concentrate on the Denver metro area, CBS Denver reports. More than 50 plows are ready to clear snow along the I-70 mountain corridor.

Saturday morning, Nashville across the city, where icy issues have been reported, according to The Tennesseean.Several serious crashes have been reported east of the Nashville area in Putnam County, where Tennessee Department of Transportation reports the roads are still icy.
The District of Columbia snow team was deployed at 7 a.m. Saturday morning by Major Muriel Bowser, according to the city's AlertDC system. Some 200 snow trucks will work to ensure roads are safe.
