Linus left behind more than a foot of snow in parts of Iowa and Illinois. Up to 20 inches of snow was estimated in downtown Kalamazoo, Michigan.

Linus was the third heaviest snowstorm on record in Detroit (16.7 inches as of early Monday morning measured at Detroit Metro Airport). Only an Apr. 6, 1886 storm (24.5 inches) and a Dec. 1-2, 1974 storm (19.3 inches) were snowier.

Chicago also chalked up its fifth heaviest snowstorm on record, with O'Hare Airport measuring 19.3 inches of snow since Jan. 31. The Windy City now has picked up three of its top five snowstorms of record in the last 16 years.

Power outages have also been reported in the Midwest due to the weight of the snow on power lines and tree branches.

Blizzard warnings were issued for the Chicago area on Sunday, and blizzard conditions were confirmed by ground observations in Racine, Wisconsin, as well as within metro Chicago.

Senior meteorologists Nick Wiltgen contributed to this report.
