Tropical Depression Gonzalo Sweeping Through Southern Windward Islands Bringing Gusty Winds and Heavy Rain

Tropical Depression Gonzalo is nearing Trinidad and Tobago.It's expected to sweep through the southern Windward Islands Saturday.It is a very small storm, so its impacts will be minimal.Flooding rain, high winds, high surf and coastal flooding are all possible in parts of the Windward Islands.Gonzalo is the earliest seventh named storm to form in the Atlantic.

Gonzalo was the to form in the Atlantic basin, according to Phil Klotzbach, a tropical scientist at Colorado State University. The previous record was held by Tropical Storm Gert, which developed on July 24, 2005.

It fought a brief fight as it crossed the Main Development Region of the southern Atlantic, but eventually ran out of steam as it reached the southeastern Caribbean with a few showers and thunderstorms.
