Americans don't have to venture halfway around the world for vacation destinations that are almost always sunny.

Of the 10 cities that average the sunniest weather per year, five can be found in the United States. In the gallery at the top of this page, you can see all 10 cities that topped the World Meteorological Organization's list of the sunniest towns in the world.

The list was compiled by the WMO, using data provided for 129 countries and territories from 1961 to 1990. Current Results says the data comes from 1,800 weather stations placed all over the seven continents.

When all the data is combined, the WMO says climate stations around the world average 2,334 hours of sunshine a year (about 6.5 hours a day), and the sunniest city averages nearly twice that total. To find out which city that is, be sure to click all the way to the end of our slideshow above.
