Stunning Photos of Yunnan's Disappearing Paddy Fields

The unique environment of China's paddy fields offer a beautiful palette for photographers to work with. Varying light conditions lend an array of colors to the water-soaked land. This particular charm is what first drove photographer Samuel Peck to the paddy fields of Yunnan, China.

But in a few years, the view might not be around for people to enjoy. The paddy fields are currently under threat due to urbanization and tourism.

"The traditional image of China's farmers toiling under the sun is eroding fast, and not only in Yunnan," Peck told weather.com. "Additionally, I think that with the advent of tourism in Yunnan and throughout China, locals no longer feel motivated to toil the lands; instead they are probably better off being tourist coach drivers, souvenir sellers and the like."

With the lack of farmers to maintain the land, the paddy feilds have begun to fall into disrepair. According to PetaPixel, a local told Peck the the fields could be gone .
