Parts of Colorado, Wyoming and western Kansas woke up to a taste of winter Friday.

Snow started falling across the area late Thursday, dropping as much as 5 inches in Cheyenne, Wyo. The National Weather Service reported Fort Collins, Colo. saw 2 inches by Friday morning. The snow spread into western and central Kansas, piling up to at least 5 inches near Goodland. The snow was forecast to end in Kansas by Friday evening.
Photos showed slushy streets around the Denver area, but the city is no stranger to mid-October snow. On average, the Mile High City sees its first measurable snowfall on October 17.
